A petition of 11th January 1870 in favour of the reinstatement of the Great Western Railway Works hooter signed by men from New Swindon. This relates to the long running dispute between Henry 5th Viscount Bolingbroke (d1899) and the railway works over their sounding of the factory hooter. Bolingbroke objected to the noise but local people saw the morning alarm as a boon and passionately campaigned to have it reinstated.
