A booklet describing the long- running dispute between Henry St.John 5th Viscount Bolingbroke and the Great Western Railway Works in Swindon over their sounding of a morning alarm - the Hooter - that provided a wake up call to factory workers all over the town.

The article includes satirical poems and songs written by local men who were outraged at the Hooter being temporarily silenced by the company.

'Will any doctor or physician come forward and say

That the health of this gentleman is going to decay

Through the sound of a trumpet vibrating the air?

No, not one on his account will come, I declare. '
