David Murray John, Town Clerk of Swindon from 1937 to his death in 1974, was a seminal character in the history and survival of Lydiard House and Park. The architect of the town's post war growth, he was responsible for initiating and driving the purchase and rescue of Lydiard House and Park by Swindon Corporation in 1943.
