The manuscript notebooks begin with the founding of the Village Hall Fund Committee in March 1944 and record in considerable detail their programme of fundraising activities as well as the actual building works. The books are interspersed with news clippings which record events from Carnival to the August fete, football and boxing matches, concerts and film shows, whist drives and children's Christmas parties. The books offer a nostalgic glimpse into village life in post-war Britain.
