Studio portrait of Captain Henry Mildmay St.John (1882 -1957), eldest son of Henry 5th Viscount Bolingbroke and Mary (Howard) and the eldest of the three St.John brothers to fight in World War I.

By the time this photograph was taken Henry had been made a Captain with the 4th Worcestershire Regiment. He took part in the ill-fated Allied invasion of Gallipoli (in Turkey) where he was severely injured. He was shipped to hospital in Alexandria for treatment before being sent home to convalesce in the Lady Islington Hospital in London.
