St. Mary's Lydiard Tregoze's stone font is the building's earliest surviving feature, dating from the thirteenth century when the church was greatly enlarged or possibly even rebuilt during the Tregoze family's tenure. It may have replaced an earlier wooden tub.

At some point, probably in the nineteenth century, the font was raised on a stone plinth. This was removed as part of building conservation works undertaken by Ellis & Co. in 2020 and the font returned to its original level.
