A thoroughly researched and detailed history of the Ayliffe family whose Wiltshire branch intermarried with the St.John family of Lydiard Tregoze in the 17th century.

The author, Penelope Ayliffe, is descended from the brother of Sir George Ayliffe who married Anne St.John at St. Mary's Church Battersea in 1610. She describes Anne as being the favourite sister of Sir John St.John 1st Baronet and though she and Sir George lived nearby in the village of Grittenham, they chose to have their children baptised and buried at Lydiard. Sir George is also buried in the vaults at Lydiard Tregoze and his funeral hatchment hangs in the south aisle.

The section on the Ayliffe family of Wiltshire begins on page 28 and includes various references to Lydiard and the St.Johns, and the strong bonds which existed between the two families including shared business interests. Copies of related wills can be found towards the end of the document.
