The Lydiard Tregoze Country Show with its annual gymkhana was instigated by Revd. Brian Carne to raise funds for the dilapidated bells which had fallen silent at St. Mary's Lydiard Tregoze and other much needed repairs to the building.

This article names many local people who took on different roles, organising the gymkhana and all manner of supporting stalls, side shows, refreshments and entertainment. The show ran for 25 years, the last one taking place in 1984.
