The photograph shows the bar in the social club on the 1950's estate at Lydiard Park. The residents decorated the vacant Nissen hut themselves and a drinks licence was granted by Swindon Corporation in 1952.

For most of the decade the club was run by Harold and Gladys Cheesley. It provided a venue for music, singalongs and dances as well as doubling up as a youth centre.

For more information on the club and life on the camp, see Related Items, The Lost Estate booklet.
