Memorial tablet to Honourable John St. John, 1793

A very descriptive memorial erected in memory of the Honourable John St.John, third and youngest son of John, 2nd Viscount St.John and nephew of Henry 1st Viscount Bolingbroke who died on 8th October 1793 aged 48yrs.
John's brother, Lieutenant General Henry St. John, who erected the memorial eulogises:
',,,a man in the highest degree friendly, candid, humane, and just, of the most liberal mind, of the strictest probity and elevated sense of honor'.
Henry goes on to describe his brother's ' long oppressive and severely-painful illness, which he bore with extraordinary patience & resignation; leaving behind him many much afflicted friends and not a single enemy.'
John St. John wrote a play, Mary Queen of Scots, which was produced in the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in 1789 with the lead roles performed by John Philip Kemble and Sarah Siddons. He also wrote a two act opera, The Island of Marguerite, which was produced at the Theatre Royal the same year.
