This rare and evocative film marks a triumph for the Swindon Corporation. For the first time, members of the general public were allowed in to view the State Rooms of the St. John family's former ancestral home at Lydiard Park. We seen them entering the house and looking around the vast and largely empty rooms.

The 1955 event followed an ambitious programme of restoration works enabled by government funding and great perseverance on the part of the council. As the film shows the works were ongoing.
